Power gaming hiding as roleplaying

I've been noticing a recent trend with large groups recently including police. These groups are surrounding smaller groups/individuals and initiating RP. The RP is vaguely threatening so the smaller group is put into position either surrendering or fighting at impossible odds. If the smaller group refuses to comply with demands and initiates combat then the larger group tends to claim RDM and remands compensation.
This isn't Roleplay this is just power gaming. When I've encounters larger aggressive groups like LOV or Kitty Kartel. They never had to use the level of RP to initiate against us. Basically it was do as your told or they light you up. I don't really have a problem with this as they are playing the ROLE of gangster/terrorist.
Surrounding people and not allowing them to resist is just bullying, then going whining to mods when your bullying doesn't play out is frankly pathetic. Either there has to be explicit rules on combat initiation which applies to all or just accept that encounters with two large armed groups tend to end badly for all involved. The vague "quality roleplay" seems to be exactly whatever a large groups say it is.

That's not powergaming, thats called being smart,Surrounding & outmanuvering a smaller force is a completly acceptable arrangment,I wont comment on RP as I've no Issues myself.

Can i ask why LOV has been mentioned in a post about poor RP, when you more that likely have not been to speak to the leaders or members of LOV, the fact we have a large gang it leads issues like this. As we have 'large agressive gang' we cant just leave people behind or not play with them, and next time if it is a real problem please contact a leader of LOV thanks.

If you read what I wrote. I didn't say it was bad roleplay I said you guys weren't held to level we were and as such it cost our group £1.5m because of a larger group using RP initiation as a power gaming tool. Exactly what Kitty Kartel and LOV don't do.

I'm not sure that I agree with you on this one mate (from the police perspective at least)

If a situation arises, if for instance there are several cops who arrive on scene, we are always going to do what we can to avoid escalation - having a reasonable number of cops on scene to discourage things 'kicking off' is well and truly within RP.

There are extremes of course, but generally, the cops are very RP focused - it's beaten into us. I'd encourage you to report any specific occurrences of sub standard RP on the cops part (things do go wrong) but generally, I think they do a pretty solid job of it.

How do you get yourself in a sitsuation that you are surrounded? I mean if its larger group surrounding you, should it be easier to spot when they are trying to make move on you?

You should have one guy in a helicopter or car driving around and spotting for possible threats.

Sorry if i took this in the wrong context however, why were LOV mentioned if we dont do this? But in the original posting you said we did. I do understand it can be fustrating when there are alot of people surrounding you and initiating, but this doesnt affect the level of Rp provided.

I don't think I quite understand what you're getting at - if you're being surrounded and you actively initiate and start combat, then that's not RDM - as much as they may whine about it.

I really don't understand what you mean by powergaming - that's not really a huge concept here as weapons are involved and people shan't be penalized for taking the upper hand.

Guys this is with regards to an incident last night. On server 2, there was no police after the 00:00 restart, so we, the Altis volunteer corps, took it upon ourselves to patrol Kavala, and make sure everybody was getting along.

We approached 4 men who we believed to have just robbed an innocent Hobo. A Hobo for gods sake. So when we arrived, we told he gentlemen to lower their weapons, 2 of them didn't even know how to do that. After letting them know that doing anything stupid, would be unwise as they're surrounded, and outnumbered 6 to 2.

Then while I turned my back, I was told I was gonna regret that, and 3 of us were RDM'd. They were taken out, and I asked them to join TS. It took 25 minutes and @JohnJoeeganto convince them that this was RDM. We then received £800,000 comp for the £1.2mil of gear that was lost, and we left it at that.

Your Roleplay was pathetic. And so is your "people" skills, as you shown on TS. Muttering things like 'well in Glasgow its a threat" doesn't get anyone anywhere, and neither does whining on the forums about it.

Quite simple, be smart play smart. Talk before you shoot. This is an RP server not a shooting server. I can easily tell that this post is to do with your incident with AVC last night.

I'll keep an eye on this thread, please don't make me lock it. Everyone be nice.

As so only English cultural norms are respected here. I'm my culture you rock up and start making threats and demands. It means that you've initiated a violent confrontation. That's how it works here. Talking about Roleplaying. Yours ain't much to write home about either. I don't think you understand the idea of ROLE as opposed to TALK. A role is as much being in character (we were playing low down scum) as talking.
We had just RP'd the abuduction of a PC family and forced PC to assainate amother PC while crying and begging forgiveness. Now you walked up to a group of violent gangsters like you were on a sunday stroll. You didn't stay anything to give us a hint of your RP scenario you wanted to play out. None of us knew who you were. You were just another gang as far as we knew. The only thing you tried to do was to get an armed group of gangster to lower their weapons. For what? Why would an armed group of gansters do that? We refused to put our weapons down, as gangsters do. Instead of moving on with some RP you just kept demanding this over and over. Tensions rose and bullets flew. That to me seems like a realistic out come for that scenario. You approached weakly we reacted aggressively. That is how gangster work. That is Roleplaying. As someone who has Roleplayed for 37 years. Now if that's not what you want for this server you need to be explicit on what you want. Killing is a big part of this game. We're not here to do soap opera. We're here to roleplay exciting and fun scenarios we can't play out in life. If it's just cuddles and hugs all round then I think it's not the place for me. So please let me know I've not misunderstood the function of this server.

So after watching the video once again, I've come to the conclusion that your Roleplay was genuinely non-existent. We told you why we were there, I told you my name, I told you who we were, I told you that we didn't like to see people get robbed of the little things they have, and THAT's why we were there. We were responding to what we thought was a robbery, which it was. We got nothing out of you apart from "No you lower your weapons" and "you're gonna regret that". You were itching for a gunfight, not for RP.

Well in my days as a bouncer. It's kicked off for a lot less than that.

I read the first two lines of this and stopped. To say only English culture is respected here is tantamount to saying that we disrespect every other culture.

just a note in future, be more polite when raising an issue, it's a lot more receptive. M
