Police Age Requirement

Ive heard lately that age requirement is being raised to 18 and that is currently 16 at the moment.

For the record, my age is 15, and only just made a forum account, just to find out more about this server (for the moment).

I know that:

  1. With higher age comes higher maturity levels on average and is very common to assume that lower aged people are 'immature'
  2. There are some people who mature much earlier than regular, however some of these are still nieve and tend to do immature things when maturity isn't a requirement, such as get bored or aggrivated easier
  3. #1 leads to types of discrimination/conflict/'let down souls' because they are 'too young' to do what they wish to (whether or not this matters to this community has yet to be presented to me fully)
  4. Sometimes there are 'surprises' (exceptions to the rule), however I have heard that this only comes to those who have been here before age requirements were amped up, and that it is very rare for an application to be accepted that is under age reqs
Please explain to me about everything I have seen and listed here, as I do not understand it fully. I would also like to know my chances of getting into the force (I don't know my actual 'play time' on the server, but I can say I have 150k in money, if that makes a difference).

Quick info about me:

I have been hopping servers to find one that I actually like and this one appeals to me even though I am American, however I was let down when I realized that there was (in my eyes) no way to enter the virtual police force solely because of my age. Being in the police was one of my favorite parts of the 'life rpg' gamemode back in Arma 2, and I completely understand the point of whitelisting police to prevent FailRP, but the strict age restrictions that seem to be commonplace (some servers I've seen even attack the younger people for trying to become a virtual officer) make it seem slightly more of a way to make being an officer an exclusive priveledge to only the veteran players, and a way to deter the rest. To me, the best way to have fun as a law-abiding citizen in this game is to be an officer, and is much better than being a rebel or criminal, and much easier (minus the age requirement). It's a very big let down to me as it seems impossible to be a part of a police force on a higher quality popular server simply because I am further behind.

Fiendly admin/mod/veteran officer feedback is also appreciated.

It's raising to 18? Who told you that? I believe it's staying at 16. People of that age are reasonably mature even though we have a few acceptions.

We do not really let anyone into the police that is under 16 unless it has been varifird by the CSIs or admins. This is because it is a police rule, not a guideline.

If you are mature before then that is too bad, because it still is a police rule and the people who accept/deny applications only let people over 16 in.

That's all I have to say, a higher up might have something else to say.

Admins stated last month it will be raising to 18 not yet confirmed if staying like this or what is still happening. But if you ask me raise it, the police at the moment outnumber rebels at all times. Should it not be police are much better trained so they can deal with the issues?

Wow, that's a shocker that it's going to become minimum age of 18, does this meant that anyone in the force under the age of 18 will be removed?

Really, well that completely defeats the object of raising it to the age of 18, because that would not be fair to other people who were 16 or 17, as there would still be people in the force that could possibly be 'Immature'. Anyways I'm not in the force so It doesn't matter to me, but I'd be annoyed if they did change it, and kept the 16 & 17 year old officers that are currently in the force, as it contradicts the reasoning for raising the age requirement.

Thanks, Vixxy ;)

@Vixxy

It did not happen last time (when the age went from nothing to 16) , so i don't think it will this time ^-^

Part of being a police officer is having a good "Command Presence" and although I've met some mature teenagers, it's still a lot of responsibility to be a police officer. Plus there have been situations in game just like there are in real life that players refuse to deal with an Officer who has a squeaky voice, and would rather deal with an adult. It's no disrespect to the teenage gaming community, but it is a lot of power and responsibility for what we do.

I work with a bunch of 19 year olds, and there are plenty of times that people would rather talk to the 30 year old, than the babyface kid carrying a gun.

This is quite a double sided subject and I could write reems on it but I wont.

On one hand, being a leader of another, well ex - leader, large community myself I have experienced quite a few things with younger members. For example on quite a few occassions trouble has come from the younger ones, they were being too loud / annoying, their voices grated on people (not their fault I know) and genreally they broke the rules. However I had an 11 year old in my clan and people scoffed at me for allowing him to be a member, however he was probably the most respectful and shockingly one of the most mature in the clan, from day one I never had a single issue and he was totally switched on.

However as someone else said the Police need to be authoritive. For lack of better words people call younger ones 'Squeakers' so for example you get someone with a young / high pitched sounding voice telling you to listen to their commands people wont take them as seriously and it leads to frustration all around.

Genreally older people are more mature but I have experienced Many cases where this is not true. If the age is being lifted to 18 then it's not a massive difference but quality control still needs to be maintained.  However if the age limit is reduced or stays the same it needs to be implemented even more.

For you younger people I can understand the frustration but it's the same reason most jobs are only avaliable to 18 year olds (at least in my country), it's because by that point people should be at least some what mature and have developed enough mentally / physically to cope with the stresses of the situation to which their applying.

That was a pretty long waffle, and if the age of the force is being raised I 1000% agree with it.

@Vinc3nt

I understand where you're coming from but I have rarely encountered someone at the age of 16 who has a squeaky voice, maybe in the 13-15 age range, but when it comes to 16+ to have not hit puberty by then, it's a massive minority. Adding to this, the mindset of a 16 year old compared to that of an 18 year old does not really vary under normal circumstances so I cannot see why it needs to be changed, to me it seems that they have had few mischievous and childish officers, and have decided that the only way to prevent this is to change the age requirement, when in reality it's more down to the fact of what that specific person's personality is like, rather than there age, because I can assure you that I know just as many immature 18+ year olds as I do 16 & 17 year olds.

Seems to me that everyone is strictly supporting this and that it is impossible for me to play as an officer now.  :(

I mean, you can resemble this issue with real life. Its not fair for anyone, if we only make few exceptions from the rules. Like, in real life you don't see people getting their drivers licenses early because they're "mature" enough. Also, from my experience, younger people are also the ones who usually cause issues, its just how it is.

And in response to whoever said that it would not be fair to change the limit, since some people would be under the limit then. Thats just how it goes when rules are changed, it has nothing to do with being unfair really.
