PNC USB

Hello!

So, I recently remembered I had a PNC on one of my chars, and I had an idea that people may like.

Currently in the intel-collection speciality and place, there isn't much you can do. You do most by hours of tailing, talking, buying leaked intel which is a risk as you don't know whether its clean of a rule break etc.

I think something that could be really cool is the idea of a new USB, that when in inventory and PNC is "Used" you get a one off look-up of a citizen ID with a police ping to your location.

I feel like this could be a super good piece of RP for those wanting to look into people, the USB itself could be an extremely taxing item to craft, but I think opens up a lot of RP opportunities for police, the average person and crims alike. It also gives an alternative method to the good ole, kidnap, gunpoint and hand a photo to a fed to "print" the tablet onto.

Just to add a layer of clarification to this due to me being on no sleep writing this: The view you’d get would be the main profile where you see the details, notes and markers currently on the person. I think it’d be OP to open reports, but it could be interesting for that*

Please let me know what you think!

Pros:
More for criminals to do, i.e. options for people to be looked into
A new alternative piece of investigation RP for police.

Cons:
Dev time of course
If USBs are too accessible, it could cause a plethora of issues for it being over-utilised.

+1 and I'll explain why before the blue people start screaming at me. I get what you're saying you want to be able to pull precursory information off the profile on the PNC attached to a particular person. I agree, arrest reports would be too much as it contains BWV and other things with a high potential for metagaming. The information on the public facing PNC profile is not of the highest risk. I would say that I would suggest there be protected categories such as Judges and government officials that if were to be able to be required would require a much lengthier process such as a "heist" of similar scale to that giant financial place you can fumigate as a pest control person. Maybe something involving life invader?

Now, I think there could be levels to this. If you plug a USB into secure system odds are you're not getting anywhere. However, for game's sake let's say your random person #1 with a USB you can plug the USB in and look up and ID and get heavily redacted or corrupted information. Now, let's say you know what you're doing, you get the PNC and download the profile of the person you want on the USB, and you need more than that initial set of data that's encrypted and gets corrupted or redacted. You have to find a data terminal or something on the side of the road and connect the USB there and decrypt it or something. The police get a ping and makes this a riskier endeavor. Circling back to the heist idea, what if you needed the max amount of data this type of thing can provide? Well, I'm sure there's a building with servers and computers somewhere already. I'm really trying to remember the plot to Watchdogs here.

To finish this off, this would need to be done right. However, I agree the roleplay this could provide players is immense. I will +1 solely on the vision, reality may be much unkinder but we should never stop dreaming and being creative, ultimately that's what roleplay is all about right?
