In your own words, please type why you think you were banned.
"I was banned because me and my party had a heated argument with the Communist Party of Altis. After this heated argument I decided to play the german marching song 'Erika' "through my phone". Now the reason i did this is because we thought we could provoke them back. Because people in game would assume that an old german song combined with "The Facist Party of Altis" would be fitting. Another reason for playing music is that we tried to counter the Communist party playing their own music a few moments earlier.
What have you been upto in the last 6 months+ ?
I was redirected here from my original ban appeal. However, I will add what I have done since I was banned. This is of course regarding this server and Arma 3. My life does not crash and burn since I was banned in a game. It sucks but I have other games to play. Then again, it's boring to play alone when all my friends are playing on roleplay.co.uk right now.
Since I was banned me and a friend (who I played with on the server) have researched Erika as a song. That I will go into detail about in the “Why should we unban you” section of the appeal. Apart from that I have contemplated what I could have done differently. That I will also go into detail about in the “Why should we unban you” section of the appeal.
I have of course been salty because I got banned unfairly, or so I thought initially. Then when I learned about Erika and its modern-day usage it makes sense. This is by far the best roleplay server for vanilla Arma 3. I don’t know how modded Arma 3 servers are, but my friends say that they are in general really bad. There is no big modded server with a consistent player base that would satisfy what I am after. And that is to have fun without getting killed by overpowered weapons, RDMed or killed by people that are do so in the grey zone of the rules. Which is why I also understand your choice of not having very defined rules when it comes to such matters. And why civilians cannot own rocket launchers, IEDs and similar weaponry.
In addition, I have read the rules over and over. So that I know what I can do and what I cannot do. However, I am wondering about two things and that is what shops are considered as. Are they green zones or are they not?
And the second one is what is considered an exploit. Does that also mean leaning to see through walls and similar?
I ask these questions since they were not mentioned in the rules. There is no hiding that some of my group members have camped stores (outside of greenzone) and used the leaning mechanic to see through walls. However, I am unsure if those are breaking rule 6.1.3 regarding robbing in greenzone (most shops have a green icon, like motors in Kavala). And rule 2.4 regarding using exploits. Then again, the leaning mechanic “abuse” is often used in Arma 3.
Why do you want to return ?
I want to return since it was a fun server to play on. A very good roleplay community, active moderation with no history of admin abuse and the majority of my videogame friends are on it. They will not change server when I fucked up. Why should they abandon loads of progress just because I got banned? My friends won’t, all they say is that I should buy a new copy on G2A and add it to my CSGO smurf. However, I don’t support G2A and won’t risk my money to (potentially) get scammed/my key gets blocked.
The roleplay.co.uk server is unique as a roleplay server for a game. There are not any servers that I have found in any other game with such a moderation and community. That is why I want to return. Finding a good roleplay community in a game is about as hard as winning the lottery.
Why should we unban you ?
I would like that you read my initial unban appeal. I list many reasons in there why to unban me. I will not repeat any of them here, that is laziness. If I come off as cocky saying this that is not my intention.
If you were to unban me it would be because I broke rule 2.7 intentionally. However, I did not read the rules that well initially when I started playing on the server. There are loads of marching songs I could have played, alas this one I got banned for since it's a well-known German song (and now affiliated with Nazism). Me, my political party and my friends are not Nazis/fascists. We do not even have any real political plans on the server. This has to be stressed again.
Since I was banned I and a friend (who plays on this server) have done even more research about Erika. It was a popular song before WW2 and is (at worst) associated with Wehrmacht. If you know history you would know that Wehrmacht (generally) consisted of normal people. Of course, they committed war crimes. War brings out the worst in people, just look at the scandals from modern warfare in the Middle-East (from both sides).
Our research includes looking at the lyrics and reading what other people have concluded with. The song is not banned in current day Germany. It is an apolitical song. We did however find out that the song is popular in real fascist/edgelord meme communities. My friend was the one to tell me this when we conducted our research. He has frequented such sites back when he was a neo-Nazi. I did not know of this since I am in no way affiliated with such beliefs.
I did also find out that it was affiliated with Nazi Germany in general. For example, being used in Schindlers List. Then again, I do not remember every song I hear in a movie, nor do I read the comment section of Youtube videos and I did not notice the video with the title “Erika 1930 Hi Fi...not nazi...ok?”. That title would have made me reconsider playing Erika. Since it obviously shows that Erika is associated with Nazi Germany.
Erika today is still not a Nazi song, but “meme kids” have gotten it affiliated with Nazi ideology. And it has been used in general as an example of Nazi music in videos/movies. I did not know this.
Do I understand now why you permanently banned me under rule 1.2 regarding hateful expressions?
Yes, I do indeed understand why. But this is not something I knew at the time of playing the song. Since I am, nor never was, part of these neo-Nazi communities I did not know about the usage of Erika. There is no hiding that my friend introduced me to Erika as a song. It is played it from time to time on our Discord server. It is not something that my friend or staff of said server care about. They have a more relaxed view when it comes to any kind of hate speech/ideology. However, I have no choice really, they are my only friends that play videogames regularly. Then again, we are Northern Norwegians and have a more relaxed view on slurs in general. That does not mean that I would ever use such words, but it's not that unusual to hear a Northern Norwegian say “neger” (n-word in Norwegian).
I know that you can only take my word for what I am writing. You do not know me in any way, apart from the fact that I made the “Fascist Party of Altis” and got banned for breaking rule 1.2 regarding hateful expressions.
Do I regret making the party? No, I meant that as a joke and a way to create a tense political environment in game. At no point was it meant as a serious political statement.
Do I regret playing the song now that I know what it is all about? Yes, because that is against what I am comfortable with doing.
Would I have done something differently in hindsight? Yes, I would never have played any song. That is since just playing a song breaks rule 2.7 about trolling. And playing Erika breaks rule 1.2 about hateful expressions due to it being affiliated with the modern-day neo-Nazism.
