@Vladic Kamentioned this game, and it just went into Early Access recently. I've only played this a short time with limited time, but it's a pretty fun game.
It was made by the guys who created the popular cRPG mod for Mount and Blade

Right now its on sale, it's no frills version with a duel and conquest 75 vs 75 players game mode, but they're going to release the main game mode "The Epic" next week.
It will be a persistent game mode with cities/bases/factions and allows players to fight for other players as mercenaries.
