They can scan and find out the name of the owner of the truck, they probably got you to say you owned it or something.

They then saw you were wanted for gun-related crimes, so they assumed you had a weapon.

Just be a bit more careful when talking to the police if you want to keep your identity hidden

 
They can ANPR vehicles, which will tell them who owns it and if the owner is wanted.

 
So first off police cars have a ANPR system inside them (automatic number plate registration system), which allows them to scan the number plate of the car, giving them the registered owner. Through that they can check the PNC (police national computer) and see if the registered owner has any charges to their name. With that information they can conduct an investigation, checking you for guns, drugs etc. depending on the charges.

 
Why would you change the question to "This has been answered thanks" robbing anyone else who had the same question finding this ?
