Hi all.​

Firstly, before I start the suggestion, I would like to thank all staff team for their hard work on the server and constant development. ​

I would also like to thank the community for their hard work and the players that really take the RP on this server seriously, keeping the standards of RP high on the server.​

So into the suggestion we go​



So what do I mean by Player Owned radio station? To put it briefly, I think it would be a cool idea to have a radio station added which is player controlled where people can play music in a similar way to jukebox, but the music gets streamed to a custom radio station which is playable in vehicles.

Maybe even if it comes to it, developers could make it that whoever is in control of the station could broadcast their voice over the radio. This could really push interactions around the city a lot further and bring loads options to how this could be used, for example other businesses could pay the radio station host to advertise/promote their business over the radio, or people could call the radio station to talk to the host while the conversation is being broadcasted over the radio if people wish to broadcast a message, or the radio DJ could even do questionnaires with rewards to whoever wins the questionnaire. Maybe bring someone in for an interview? The options are endless.

And obviously it gives people the opportunity to listen to more diverse music that isn't local radio(not a lot of people on the server listen to radio at all).

More in depth:

  • For people to apply as radio DJ's they would have to fill out an application form, similar to LS POLICE or LS NHS (therefor only suitable people have access to control the radio and you don't have randoms trolling through the radio)
  • The physical location of the station could be set up at a specific place in the city, so people can enter it, similar to a shop where staff of the businesses can lock and unlock doors and enter the building.
  • The music could be played through a link, similar to how jukeboxes work.
  • The business could make money through newcasts, selling ads, and radio events
  • This business would be less money making based, and more RP based, similar to a lot of the other businesses in the city such as mechanic shops which are there to provide great RP instead of making loads of bucks



Now there are a lot of things that would have to be planned more in depth, such as the name of the station, location for the radio station building and how to in general make this idea a reality.

Pros: 

  • Improves RP
  • Adds another business to the city
  • Improves interactions in the city
  • Adds more music to be played on the radio(people might actually turn their radio on now)

Cons: 

  • Will be quite a lot of dev work
  • People prank calling the station(EDITED - not a con, would be funny people prank calling the station)



I feel like this is a very diverse idea and there so much more to be added to this, so I'm open to suggestions from the community below, and let me know what you guys think about it.

+1 as someone who previously ran internet radio stations, prank calls were some of the highlights 🤣

 
+1 I can see it being very difficult to implement and would require commitment from a decent group of people to work properly but if done properly it would be very cool to see.

 
So this is something I have seen done before. how it was done was they replaced one of the GTA Radio stations with the radio station and used an icecast server to play music. I've posted the FiveM resource below for the devs to have a look at. This would allow those whitelisted to broadcast the ability to broadcast. Taking phone calls through the in game phone streaming their game audio into their desired software to stream to the IceCast Server.

As someone that has created/owned and dj'ed on pirate and internet radios for over 20 years as well as playing at hundreds of raves and events I'd really enjoy having a weekly set or two if there was the ability to steam live i.e. shoutcast/icecast server. I have already uploaded some of my older recorded dj sets to youtube for people to use the links at events on the beach and in their clubhouses but be much better if live and interactive.

As said be good to have an interactive radio as people are working in (maybe a handheld radio or a use the boombox for placing on the floor to play to miners or smelters etc) or when of course driving around the city. Each DJ bringing their own style of show and music tastes will create a lot of diversity and maybe show times to look forward too.

The station could tie into things like events, where the event has their own dj who could be doing a set on the radio and this is played out to event goers through maybe a mobile soundsystem or loud car system etc. and have a cross advertisement event and radio etc.

Things to consider would maybe a DJ role allowing priority entry if they have a set coming up say a 30 min window before their set time to allow driving to the st. and hand over from previous DJ.

DJs could goto the station to cover free slots on the station so that it stays as Live as possible... I'd be happy to do some late nights/early mornings... used to do 10pm till 8am every
Saturday night on a pirate station in Essex for about 2 years. Constantly live and mixing - fun times.

AutoDJ can be set up easily for when no djs are on. Be it old recorded sets or a playlist of tunes. Can tie adverts into and may an auto dj notifcation message every 10/20mins.

Station could sell the odd advertisements slots for dj change over transition time so station generates it's own income, again some could come from events and even maybe st. DJs hired for parties/events.

Dedicated studio phone for the miss calls and texts or to take phone in's on. Used to do miss calls on pirate stations as a free way for listeners to be acknowledged and we'd read out their last three digits or if in the phone book their name shouted out by the DJ etc. helps create local recognitions and the DJ knows people are listening, also others in the city will hear who's about to say hello and stuff. Can kind of chat through the SMS and things.

Quite a wealth of opportunities with it all. +13 votes from me and each of my belly rolls 😛 Rocking a 12 Pack haha!
