Need Help: High Ping on ALUK Servers

Hello Everyone.

I've had a similar issue back in December, when my ping was shooting up to 350-400ms (here is a link to that post http://www.altislife.co.uk/topic/44384-need-help-high-ping-on-aluk-servers/).

I am connecting from Dubai, UAE and am getting kicked off for high ping (220-250). Up until yesterday's morning everything was fine but the last 24 hours have been terrible.

I am getting normal ping on other UK / EU arma servers (around 130-140). Its just ALUK that I have issues with.

@Zeito, here is a tracert, just like last time, I'm getting issues when it gets closer to UK

I tried using a software called WTFast, to redirect my connection and with it I'm getting around 120-130ms BUT my packet loss skyrockets from 2 to 100 and I'm getting MASSIVE desync in game. Can't really play like that, since simply driving a car can be deadly for other people.

@kiarash is also playing from Dubai and he's having the same issues and very similar tracert.

Is there anything I can do? Any particular VPN, etc?

Does Kiarash also get the same tracert with flagtel? Your ping starts climbing once you leave the UAE's carrier-grade NAT (see how the first load of your addresses are all 10.x.x.x LAN IPs) and get on to a network called FlagTelecom. FT seem to offer IP Transit/Content Delivery and it's possibly partly to blame for the slow down. You can see your connection is going from you -> UAE Internal LAN/WAN -> FlagTel -> Voxility -> Hydracom GSP.

Looking at some of the hostnames or the routers your hopping through your going from UAE to New York City (nyc005.flagtel.com) to London (Voxility) to bristol. And then the connection is going back probably via a similar route. You're literally going halfway round the world for a shortcut.

My guess would be since UAE internet is fairly state controlled, you dont have a lot of options open to you, but I'm not at the top of my game when it comes to country-scale networking and how to avoid it. In theory you could tunnel your connection directly to the UK using some sort of vpn and connect from there, but it'd be finding a service like that would be the thing.

Sadly no, seeing the community is based around UK the majority of our members get very good connections along with the rest of mainland Europe also enjoying good connections.

In the past we have thought about a server elsewhere say located in France or the US but right now there isn't demand for that.

Looking at your traceroute there its clear your ping is 200ms when it reaches london and a further 20ms to get to the datacentre in Bristol

A.K.A ask the NSA to stop spying on your traffic as it is ruining your gaming experience :)

@Zeito, yup, we both have same issues with flagtel, and the funny thing is that it was fine up until yesterday.

I also played for 3-4 months during summer and didn't have any issues.

As for it first going to NYC and THEN to UK, it would explain the latency issues and how WTFast is helping by redirecting my connection straight to UK. I don't mind paying for it, but the packet loss is crazy.

I would really appreciate if someone would recommend a VPN, based on their own experience.

I would, but they would simply deny any involvement, as usual :)

Still, doesn't explain why I'm getting a normal ping on other UK / EU servers.

Routing over the internet can be really damn weird. At the end of the day its down to your provider and there is very little you can do about it. If you have shit loads of money and you spend lots of money on your connection, you can call them and threaten to walk to another provider unless they start sorting your traffic out, but your going to have to be paying serious cash, or be very influential to them.

Yea, that's not going to work. We have only two ISPs - Du and Etisalat. Regardless of which one you go for, they are both owned by the government.
Viva Monopoly!
That's why they can take yo' moneyz and get away with crappy service.
