So I want to dedicate a thread to those who live overseas, on tours of duty and those who just like to get away.

What do you or did you miss most about home?

For my partner, she would crave Faxe Kondi (Danes will know) and she would regularly ask friends and family visiting her to bring over a few bottles of this fizzy drink when they visit. (I personally think it's tasteless).

I was speaking to Wilco about my first world problems recently and the question still stands, despite not having our luxury items, we get on with it. What do you miss most about home?

For me:

Not having easy access to watch the rugby

Greggs Steakbake

Menthol filters for my rollies

Jakemans hard boiled sweets

No extra tax of sugars

Reeces Steak pies (this is one very few people would have ever tried, but certainly an absolute must if you ever go to Cardiff)

Hoggies prime cuts of steak (Do it if you have spare money and you're about in Hereford)

Driving on the correct side of the road

Not so many cyclists

Ridiculous Llanelli news paper headlines (Sheep on the run!)

Stupid Welsh/English slang (Alright shag/Alright butt/Sappenin'/Ta)

Not so feckin cold winters

I've spent a lot of time abroad (currently working on emigrating to the US - my wife is a yank) and I used to practically live in the Middle East... The thing I missed most?

Bacon.

In the states it's all streaky bacon, in the Middle East if you find it, it's Turkey bacon.

How any nation can operate efficiently without good bloody bacon is beyond me. At least if you were in Denmark  you presumably had good bacon! (remember the advert? Danish bacon, danish bacon, yummy yummy yummy yummy yum)

Nothing else really bothers me! (Maybe with the exception of a good Sunday Lunch down the pub!)

Oh God I understand! Despite Danish bacon being quite famous, I'm a lover of the typical non-Danish, Danish bacon (good slices of smoked back bacon) but the most you get here is the streaky, crunchy bacon with more fat than meat!

Smoked Bacon - It's what effectively keeps me alive!

I hate crunchy bacon, I need juicy meat and plenty of it!

Used to live in Germany, i really missed the wide range of crisps, when I first moved there they basically had paprika and the odd pack of Pringles,

Bacon I could never buy normal bacon, and PG tips... And so expensive in the import stores....

pimms in the summer I did miss too.. Suprised I could just keep going on, but won't :D didn't really miss it till I think back.

That being said there are many things I miss about Germany now

I was born in Roskilde and now I live in Odense. So in other words, I'm living in another country (that's what it feels like anyway..).

What I miss:

  • Being able to understand what the actual fuck people are saying to me.

That is all

As someone who lived in Senegal, West Africa, for two years (a predominately Muslim country) I can sympathise heavily with the bacon missing. I missed proper chocolate when I was out there too, like Cadbury's (the older nicer stuff).

Currently, living at Uni in the middle of nowhere, I miss decent Internet. Here I get 110KB/s if I'm lucky. New mission files are the bane of my existence (first time I logged into the server it took me 3 attempts to download it all as BattleEye kicked me for lobby idling), and don't even get me start on new Steam sales and games .... I'm on the third day of downloading Shadow of Mordor ...

Could we not provide a mirror for the mission file, so that on large releases / slow downloads have another option to download it?

Oh god yes! With a fried egg and two pieces of bread for the sandwich.

Haha, when I first travelled the great North Sea from Harwich to Esbjerg I almost passed out at the thought of no tea. Turns out, that the shop about 20 minutes away from me sells some very good Yorkshire brew boxes for about regular price. Crisis averted!

I never took you for a Pimms kind of guy. Then again, I don't usually take guys for a Pimms kind of guy!

Why did you leave Germany?

Don't even bother, it's simply too difficult. My partners brother lives in Jotland, from Zealand but his wife is from Jotland. I frankly refuse to even try to listen to her. That being said, when I first moved here the people who run the local Fakta took sympathy upon my broken Danish, no not matter how hard I try to sound confused, the "mit dansk er ikke særligt godt', 'jeg forstår ikke' or "taler du engelsk?!" just doesn't do it. They refuse to speak English to me any more based on the fact they're trying to help me. YOU SPEAK TOO FAST.

RIP Bacon. I do miss a good chocolate bar now and again, not as much as I miss a good Steakbake though. I'm grateful the internet speeds in Scandinavia kick the several different kind of shits out of UK internet speeds.

That's a fantastic idea actually, it certainly would decrease the amount of cluster fuck that occurs on new release days. I'll be sure to forward it to Wilco, even if it's just the regular community who downloads it, it'd certainly help I'm sure.

Lucky Bastard... I had to suffer.... They drink green tea out of glasses in Germany .... The only green tea is the one that got forgotten under something for 6 months....

Normally you will find me swigging Carlseberg, but enjoy red wine, Pimms, port, baileys & assorted schnapps. But yeah normally a simple lager keeps me happy :)
