Brief Summary:

I suggest we make Mechanics whitelisted.

Detailed Suggestion:

The goal of the server being Roleplay and cars being some of the most sought after possessions, it would be a great opportunity for increased Roleplay scenarios. At the moment, there are more Mechanics in the city than cars, and it really breaks the immersion.

If not a whitelisted faction, we could just limit the amount of mechanics allowed to be active in the city in proportion to online population. I also suggest we make it so if cars are at a certain level of damage that they can only be repaired by a Mechanic (trained professional).

The Pros:

More player dispatches (increased RP)
Not being farmed as a job, and I think this would help the server economy.
It would create actual RP hubs (Garages) where players would go to get their vehicles repaired.
The Cons:

Can't be exploited for quick repairs.
Can't be used a get rich quick scheme.
Does this suggestion change balance on the server ?

Yes reduces the Mechanic millionaire Meta.

Several of these already exist and they are really good places to be.

-1 On the suggestion, I really disagree with making a decent paying job whitelisted, when there is no real need (or want based on current votes) for it. A lot of people RP as mechanics and do it well, there isn’t a need in my opinion to restrict this with whitelisting. At most, maybe make it take longer to level up.

Not being farmed as a job
What is wrong with this? It’s not as if you can make millions per day doing it, it’s there as a job and should be utilised as that.

This part isn’t the worst idea, I have always thought since the changes that full body repairs (not engine) should only be usable by level 4 mechanics. Any mechanic half decent can get a car running, but only a good mechanic can have it looking back in top condition.

Think it would ruin it for a lot of people. Considering many already do it, so what would even happen to them? The ones who have spent hours, days grinding it? Would they be automatically accepted or have to risk the chance of rejection?

I personally would be annoyed considering it's my favourite pass-time when the people I hang with are busy or out of city.

Literally agree with all of this ^

Make it take longer to level up, make body repairs a level 4 thing only, and maybe even make the "emote" to fix it take longer to play out. 🙂

Everything is wrong with that, these Jobs in game are meant to be a base for which a player builds their RP on. What benefit does hundreds of part-time mechanics have for the server? This is adding to the server economy becoming highly inflated and unrealistic.

I love making money being a mechanic in my spare time too, so I can understand your frustration.

Making money isn't an easy task and that's why some people choose a life of crime, these easy to make money open civilian jobs take that away. People have to go through formal training to be able to fix some of these highly engineered sports cars. Maybe have a "Recovery Truck Driver" as a role for the non-whitelisted.

It's at the point I hardly see anyone even dress up for the Role, is it a GTA-Online lobby or a Role-play server?

-1 This take away the opportunity to RP for a lot of new players and while yes you don't want it to just be used to grind money people particularly starting out need a way to earn and there is a lot more opportunity for an RP interaction with mechanics then taxi drivers.

There is the opportunity for mechanics to take it more seriously if they want and I dont think that it negatively impacts the server by having lots of them.

there's a lack of legal jobs for people to do atm, taking away 1 of the 2 big ones would just be even worse.

maybe when more jobs get added this can be looked into again, though it's a -1 for me at this moment in time

(own opinion and so on)

This reminds of when the politicians try and tax the rich people lol I really can't see how the current setup benefits RolePlay and server economy in the long run?

there's 2 jobs the legal civs can do that's worth it in the long run

no one will benefit from taking away one of the 2, and put it behind a wall of whitelisting.

I'd be inclined to make Mechanics whitelisted, I think it would be a great addition to the server.

However, I don't want to take away another legal job from people that aren't whitelisted for it.

Possibly in the future, when we get some more legal jobs implemented this could be looked at again and implemented.

As the above statements of only having 2 decent paid jobs to do legally in the city that is worth the time and pays well id have to give this a -1. Only because if you take away another legal job i truly believe we would have more criminals in the city 🙂

I think it is a good idea for the future though like Staff above said if and when more jobs come along then this should then be whitelisted.
