Looking to get a USB microphone. Any advice?

So I have been thinking about getting a USB mic as the signal from the microphone on my headset is pretty bad. I've been looking at the Blue Snowball (£50ish) but I've read quite a few bad reviews saying that you have to be really close for it to work properly. I then checked out the Blue Yeti but that's twice the price and then I saw the NT-USB which is another £20+. Does anyone have any recommendations? I am pretty concerned about having to stay a set distance to a microphone. It's not that I am bouncing about in front of the computer but I like how I can move about with the headset. Cheers :)

I got rid of my headset about a month ago because I broke one of the bits that holds the ears tight (it flopped off and made me dizzy playing with strange sound) so I looked into USB mic's, simply because they can be cheap, and it saves me getting hot ears and feeling uncomfortable.

Long story short, I looked into getting the snowball that you was looking at, I was just about to buy it when my dad spotted a cheaper, smaller mic with great reviews. Look into the 'SAMSON Meteorite' http://www.amazon.co.uk/Samson-SAMETEORITE-Meteorite-Condensor-Microphone/dp/B00I9RK97K it looks great in black and looks good! It works almost perfectly and from what people say it has great quality.

The only downside of it is it occasionally fuzzes up (for a few seconds) and I become in-audible.

Otherthan that, it's £19.99 for black (the nicer colour) and is great value!

@samatlewis The cable on my headset started getting worn because it was getting twisted so I did a botch up repair job just to keep it from falling apart. The fact that I've folded it up and wrapped it up with sellotape means it goes a bit wonky sometimes and I have to fiddle with the volume control to stop it hissing.

I've read the reviews for another Samson mic (SAGOMIC) and that seemed quite good, especially for the price (£30). A couple of people said it just stopped working, which if it's got a decent warrenty then that isn't too much of a problem. Some people said it was too sensitive but I could always sort that out in the audio mixer. I just looked at the Samsom Meteorite, from what I can make out it doesn't seem to have anyway of fitting it to a boom stand and I can imagine my cat playing with it and chasing it round the room. It actually reminds me of an egg and egg cup holder. Cheers for replying though, I had forgotten about the other Samson mic :)

@Simon- When I started looking into the different USB microphones I started looking at the Blue Snowball but read a few bad things, then I looked at the Blue Yeti and was mulling it over until I saw the Rode NT and thought for the extra money it was a better investment than the Yeti. I had to stop looking then as I'd start looking at more expensive mics and I only started out with the intention of paying around £50 max. This is a problem of mine. I look at one thing then think 'but for the extra £xx I can get such and such'. I may try and hold out for a bit and save up. If I have enough I'll probably get the Rode NT and if not the cheaper Samson one. Thanks for the advice. It's helped me make up my mind :)

I do exactly the same thing.... But my problem is when I buy the cheaper option (Or a lot better one is released shortly after I got it as in this case) I'll end up finding an excuse to that the more expensive one anyway.... so I end up buying both, so I've come to the conclusion it is better to buy the one I really want rather than to compromise as in the long run it is cheaper

I've got an AT2020. It's good i suppose... I really only use it for Teamspeak, Skype and Arma 3 voice over IP. I still have to buy a shock mount for it, so that's an additional cost. I guess you could find something better for the price :)

I just checked the AT2020 out and it looks like it needs a 48v phantom power supply and it doesn't connect straight to USB port. I do have a pre-amp for my Shure SM58 so I could use that but I was really trying to avoid that tbh.

I think I'm going to get the Rode NT-USB as I can also use that to record singing with. I will also have to get a shock mount. I'm not sure wheter to get a boom scissor arm or just use my mic stand.

Cheers for the feedback mate :)
