Is OVH anygood for VPS

I unfortunately don't have much experience with VPS hosting. I just bought and run my own server.

What do you want to use it for?

Have you run an arma server from a VPS before? I'm not sure what they're like resource-wise. Like I said I don't have much experience in VPS hosting.

I run an arma server, torrent box, and Plex Media server from the HP Gen 8 Microserver I bought and it runs everything pretty sweet - plus you have the actual physical box right there if you want to tinker.

I suppose one advantage of a VPS is the connection bandwidth for your Arma server - but i suppose it depends on how many people you're expecting on it.

I currently run it off cheapwindowsVPS but we have 2GB of ram LMAO

My server is only a 2.5GHz celeron, but since it's a full 1155 socket I can upgrade that easily. I stuck 8GB of ram into it (it comes with 2 in the box) and just a load of disks and it runs sweet. the Celeron is a.ctually much more capable than i'd have thought. The microserver was about £180, HP usually run a promo that if you buy one in the UK you can usually claim like 80 quid cashback so you get it even cheaper.

However if you're definitely looking for a VPS I'm afraid I can't help you other than I've heard OVH is a pretty well known name. Unsure if for good reasons or bad!

Do you know any cheap dedicated server hosts then

OVH is very bad..

I constantly had network connection issues.

OVH is exactly what it claims to be. A very budget oriented host. Everything works, and is very well priced... but there are issues.

As for if an ArmA server will run on that, I have no idea. You can get dedicated servers there fairly cheap that should be able to manage it easily with the hardware.

No offence, but I've been with ovh for 4 months and it's thus far done what ever I've thrown at it but it's Linux os, perfect for websites, teamspeak, music bots, but the anti ddos is also nice, the mitigation is handled fast, so less time offline.

As for Arma 3, I've created various mission files and just hosted them on my own pc with zero issues, fibre connection helps with the bandwidth needs.

All my experiences with them have been shocking, it could just be because they hate me haha

Sorry for taking so long in replying, I was planning to say something last night but decided this post needed a little more meat to it.

I personally don't have any experience with OVH themselves, but VPS in general yeah plenty.
First things first, Do you even need a VPS or is it that you want to play around with it and learn some cool shit ;)
All the items you have listed can be done locally with ease, the only benefit to having a VPS is the always on capability, is that a priority here ?

If your server is going to be under 10 players, you can probably get away with running that on any vps, but as they are shared resources and your buying cheap, don't expect much performance wise, but if its just training that shouldn't be an issue. If you stress it to hard you will probably find that running game server or script heavy applications will get your services heavily restricted or terminated. most t&c's have terms in regarding fair use and causing degradation of service to other customers.

Personally, I would recommend local for your music-bot, or buy a Pi and have a play at making your own mini server (im happy to help). regarding the ARMA server, I would recommend going to a hosting platform designed for gaming, but this really comes down to your needs and if you really care that much about it.

Local for music bot is OK if it's just for you only when your online but if you do want a 24/7 online music bot you'll need a vps but there all cheap, ovh in under £6 a month for a great service

@lionel the problems are that they won't be 24/7 and my internet is appalling (7hours to download Tanoa preview (6GB)

I love google...

Assuming your upload is even more shitty than that, so yeah I'd probably host anything from at least a VPS. If you can get away with it, might as well rent a dedicated server since that allows you full control over the system.

You could probably manage a music bot on your network, but even that might affect your connection at times.

If you are wanting to host all of this yourself with full control, a dedicated server would likely be the best option. This also allows you to expand to other projects and mess around with whatever you want without having to worry about sharing resources with other clients.

If you don't need full control over it all and are happy being able to change just necessary things, you could simply rent a music bot and rent an ArmA server from a game server host.

It all comes down to your needs really...

Edit: Oh, cool
