Not everyone is an master pilot like myself.
Advanced flight adds stress damage, its possible you over stressed the aircraft causing damage, you can disable the stress damage in the setting page

Mast bumping, your flying makes the mast of the rotor bump into the edges. It get's chopped of like a tree vs an axe.

How do you get these indicators in the middle of the screen?

I am pretty sure it is advanced flight mode, its somewhere in game settings but I have heard it is pretty hard to use.
