How long do you keep a house?

So lately I don't have much time to play games
Last time I logged in was the 1st of January.

But how does this work with houses?
Will you lose them if you don't login for a x amount of days?

If I have my eyes on a house that's already bought. I just keep checking everyday to see if it's for sale or is there a way to get to know if it's worth checking it out everyday. Because if the owner is active it's going to take ages haha.

No it's after 60 days of not logging in you lose the house. I would suggest logging in as a civ every now and again to guarantee the house/houses will stay
