How do you interact with things without a windows key?

My friend plays on the server through a linux system and all inputs of the windows key are not recognised by his Operating System and are therefore discarded.

Is there any alternative to the windows key for interacting and gathering items?

you can rebind the windows key, if remember correct its action 10, in the custom controls section.
