how do you get shipwrecks to work

You need:
- backpack
- Diving suit, rebreather, diving goggles, diving license
- Excavator (buy at market)
then you make your way to the wreck with your boat, and dive down. Press Y when near the wreck, select the excavator and click Use. Then wait till it says it's full. Go back to boat, fill it, dive back & repeat untill boat & backpack are full. Then sell in Kavala at the antiques dealer.

Take this hint as well because I love you so much =)
USE A HELICOPTER! Get one person to fly, one to dive. You can easily get to all of them. As long as you hover at about 5 meters, people will be able to jump out with no harm. Lower to like 2 meters so they can climb back in. Full orca makes over 200k, and as far as I found out, the wrecks have a limitless supply of treassures. After a while you'll know which items you just as well leave behing (glass bottle, scrap metal, fools gold), as they barely make anything. The Old Gold Bar is the best, worth 10k =) Happy diving =).
And leave those SDAR's at home.. Once had a random police check while I had one. Swim 800 metres to get ashore safely xD

this thread is 3 years old...
but basically you go to the shipwreck that will be marked on the map with an excavator and press windows key, Works for everyone I've been too.

Are you sure it's a altis life shipwreck and not one which is in the game standard. It will only work with shipwrecks which are seen at a yellow marker.Well i dont know what im doing wrong but i still cant collect, Im sure i have everything
BTW im aware this is an old thread its the only one i could find of any relevence

Indeed. Not the black ones. Yes they do spawn randomly! You will get a notification when they spawn and just look at the map to see where they spawned! And you're welcome.
