How do we identify VDM now?

Twice today I've had trucks just smash into my head first, even if I got it on FRAPS it's pointless because there is no way for me to identify who was in the truck. Frustratingly, the first time it happened they proceeded to steal my SUV that they smashed into and then the police later scrapped it - even if it was stolen. Not been a good day.
