How can I become part of the rebels

You talk to the leaders of any gang that you want to join in-game or no TS and they might accept you.
^^ To be fair that's a slightly impractical approach so the slightly more realistic answer http://www.altislife.co.uk/forum/68-rebels/ You go there and you make an application of the gang says "recruiting" or something like that.
UNMC are whitelisted rebels and you can show interest here: http://www.altislife.co.uk/forms/11-unmc-declaration-of-interest/
Be aware that they recruit in-game and mainly go with more established roleplayers at the minute to keep the quality high, but it is worth keeping in mind for the future.
