Headset / Headphones & Microphone

Derby mate!
So, today has been proper shite.

Got home, about to start enjoying my Friday night... and my headset isn't working.

I go to PC world to get them replaced, because Corsair do a year guarantee, and the headset is out-of-stock... so I pick up some Madcatz F.R.E.Q TE......... worst mistake of my life.

So I went from lovely sound quality of my Corsairs (really comfortable) to this bag of bollox...

So now I am going to take these back tomorrow and explain that I am unhappy with my product (or just slip and break them) and get a complete full refund of £70.

But, my question is... should I just buy a headset and standalone microphone - this will give me better sound quality and a standalone microphone... or continue to just use a headset with built-in microphone?

Also, can I even get anything for around £70 that is decent? Suggestions welcome please!

TL;DR: I messed up. I have £70, what should I do? (could probably stretch to £85 max)

  • A) Standalone Microphone and Standalone headphones
  • B) Headphones with built-in microphone

Thanks :)

The Astro A40 has got a ok built in mic, but I use just the astro a40 for surround and a blue yeti for the microphone.

Never really used a standalone mic and headset so that part wont be useful for you!

But i have never had any problems with my Corsair headsets that ive had. So from my bias view would be stay with Corsair! Might just be a random fault.

I loved my corsair 1500 7.1 - however, they just randomly died on me... so I ended up rushing into swapping them for Madcatz (rip me).

Gonna take em back tomorrow and get full refund.

Go with what you feel comfortable with,  just whatever you do NEVER, NEVER get a razor headset. Worst choice of my life.

shoulda asked me on whatsapp lol !!

don't go to standalone mic's, imo you enter a whole new world of issue's. and imo, for what we do is overkill and doesn't work in the environment it's placed in.

I reckon you should go back to PC world(shitfuckers) and tell them that the headset they have supplied is of VASTLY inferior quality and has not been replaced like for like.

Ask for your original headset back and get it replaced by the manufacturer, corsair are normally quite good about sorting warranty stuff out. If they cannot do that, buy a pos £5 headset till they can replace the original headset.

You have already paid good money for headset you like that has failed in its warranty period, don't pay again.

You should experience these bloody Madcatz bollox.
Sounds like there utter shite. But Razor Kraken Pro god no, no surround sound unless you buy a separate program, worst mic i have ever had.

They're so bad. I'm actually so rustled.

How rustled? ;)

...But on a serious note - This headset is fucking quality - great mic and sound quality

I don't know any good headsets with mic but I recommend for something cheap the blue snowball is good and some normal and good heaphones is perfect :) Not sure about a good pair of headphones...

I think we should do a "get Jamz a decent mic/headset fundraiser" as he puts a lot into the community.

A pair of headphones with a separate mic is better in my opinion, but can be more expensive.

In terms of mics, there are some cheap USB ones such as:

Blue Snowball (Which I despise)

Behringer C1U

Or anything from amazon. The two I linked previously sound very good, so be warned that quality might drop if you go for a cheaper one from amazon

For headphones, at your price range, there are several options which will all sound similar in my opinion.

At this price, most (if not all) headphones will be closed (sound isolating).

Copying and pasting from another site, for $50 USD or less:

Monoprice 8323
Surprisingly low distortion for a headphone in the price range, these have decent build quality, a removable cable, and fold for easy transport. While the sound is hardly amazing, it is a cut above most headphones in the price range and would make a beater headphone for gaming or taking on the go.

Superlux HD668B (semi-open)
Distinctly V-shaped sound signature. Lots of treble, mid-bass boost. Not recommended if sharp highs are an issue. Removable (male on headphones) 3.5mm cables, not compatible with boompro without an adapter.

Superlux HD681 (semi-open)
Very balanced sound for the price, though still slightly bright. Non removable cable.

Superlux HD-681 EVO
Nice bass-head headphones on the cheap, though lacking sub-bass extension. Craptastic upper-mids. Removable (male on headphones) 3.5mm cable, not compatible with boompro without an adapter.

However, any pair of headphones would probably be ok if you wanted to save your money for the future
