To be 100% accurate... the reason the donator sale got accidentally terminated early, is because we moved our Server1 back to our original hosting company, after having placed it for the last month with a rival hoster, in order to assess whether ISP network infrastructure and DDOS-mitigation systems had anything to do with our on-going mass-kick nightmare.
Turns out, it didn't, so we've moved back to our original hoster.
In the process of moving several hundred files and reconfiguring god-knows how many files in the space of a few minutes before midnight (
yes, unfortunately, we forgot that deadline dates were approaching fast, and we had to rather rush things to their new, old home), the file which contains the 'donation sale' on-off flag was copied out from the main file-repository, where (at that time) it was set to off. This wasn't noticed in the rush, largely because there are so many other things to take care of which are more fundamental to the running of the game.
Of course, it has now been noticed, and we (
as in I) are/am waiting for a suitable opportunity to flip the flag back to the 'on' state in one of the config-files. This can only be done in-between restarts, so it has to fit in with awkward and annoying things like:
- being awake,
- being near my computer,
- not being sidetracked by my wife or my kids wanting to do RL family things,
- answering the doorbell to people delivering birthday presents for my son, or
- justifying the actions of myself and my other unpaid volunteer colleagues to self-interested, entitled, tactless people complaining rudely on the forum about things they completely fail to understand.
Assuming I don't forget again, or get sidetracked, the donation-sale will be turned back on on Server 1 at the noon restart today.
But if I forget, I will of course refund, pro-rata, the correct proportion of the money
you alone have personally contributed as a donator this month, in reflection of the massive, life-altering disruption you have been caused by the absence of this vital, mission-critical system for the last day or so. Just you. Nobody else, because nobody else has taken the time, at such great inconvenience to themselves, to report this excruciating issue in the forthright and 'sword-of-truth-and-justice' exposé way that you did, risking your reputation and standing whilst attempting to stamp out the injustices inflicted upon you by the evil, tyrannical regime of the management and developers who are quite obviously out to rip us all off whilst getting rich and being wanked off by Thai hand-maidens 24/7 at players' expense.
Good on you. Angry voices like yours, calling out non-existent corruption and exposing human flaws in the people who live to serve you for free, are just what this country needs. You'll go far. Hopefully as far as the Moon, or maybe Mars.
Have a nice day.
