George I would have HIGHLY recommended ear defenders when using a core drill, I permanently damaged my ears using a core drill and have had really hard time adjusting to constant ringing (tinnitus) in my ears.

Being a plumber for 10 years this was fun to watch and you didn't do that bad, the waste pipe was a bit of a fail but hey..it drains!

My right ear was ringing intermittently for about two days. I'm definitely getting some ear defenders, scary stuff!
