Game Crashing

Hello there!

First of all, this is my first thread on the site but I've been playing on the servers for a while now and I must say they are the best Altis Life servers with an awesome community.

Now on to my problem. I've been having some issues with my game or PC, I don't know what causes the problem or how to fix it. I am here to see if there are any PC gurus who can help me sort it out because it is really frustrating when you're in the middle of doing something and your game just crashes. Example - I'm doing an illegal run and I'm OMW to the Dealer and my game crashes.

This is my rig right nowhttp://imgur.com/a/JQCZV

When the said problem happens, the first time (90%) is caused by "Display driver stopped working". I've noticed that after that happens, I can play without problems so I just run the game a little and wait for it to happen (it's stupid but it works out) and then I can join and play without problems.

I did that method today and I was able to play for atleast 3 hours with no problems. Now I came on an hour and a half ago, game crashed for no reason atleast 3 times in the middle of me doing something. The game freezes and I get sent back to the desktop but I can't do/click anything. I press Alt+Esc so I can acces the bar on the bottom and use the "Shutdown" option, then the screen tells me that there are stuff running in the background (Steam/Skype/TS/etc (I don't run a lot of programs in the background while playing)) and I quickly press "Cancel" to stop it and I hop on back thinking it should be fixed but it didn't work out as it kept crashing.

Any help would be really appreciated and I really want to sort this pain in the bum issue.

Cheers :)

Your PC parts seem a little bit cramped, check the temps on your parts while playing and see if the driver fails once it overheats?

Alternatively, update your drivers or search online for http://lmgtfy.com/?q=Display+driver+stopped+working+in+arma
They may look like they're cramped because that's my old case and I cba to buy another case, I had to cut out some unneeded parts so i can fit the card in it. My case isn't fully sealed, I left one of the side walls open so it can breathe/not overheat easily too. I'm pretty sure my problem is not from overheating. Still, thanks for the reply :)

This display driver error can be caused by a couple of issues -over heating is one of them but we'd need temp info for that one.

what graphics card did you have before? Did you remove the drivers when you changed the card? Even if it's the same make of card it's worth removing and fully re-installing the display drivers. there's a handy application called DisplayDriverUninstaller DDU that will FULLY remove all traces of the old drivers.

Run that, then reinstall the latest Catalyst drivers from AMD. It's been a while since i had an AMD card but i remember mine occasionally did this as well. In the Catalyst Control Center as well, there should be an 'Overdrive' tab with a Power slider that goes to +20%, slide that up full to supply your card with a little extra power (it'll only take what it needs so no worries) and there you should also be able to control the fans. If you also download an application called Speccy from Piriform you can monitor the temps of the cards, and other components. If you see the gpu is getting a bit hot (over 80c) then crank the fan slider up to about 50%, i used to keep my old 6970 on 40% so it was cool, but not too loud.

You definitely want to replace that case though. Top mounted PSU? I havent seen that in a lonnnnnnng time! That PSU is likely exhausting hot air right into the case, the CPU cooler will be valiantly trying to move air out the back, and the GPU will be putting heat into the case too. Consider getting a better case to improve airflow - the NZXT Phantom 410 is amazing. It's £70, has 3 SILENT fans included and space for 5 more, all with a built in fan controller.

Hope this helps!

edit: @SNAIP I dont see any actualy case fans on your pc... That's literally playing with fire. You NEED airflow or you'll damage your components and reduce their longevity.

It was a very old one, I am pretty sure I have new drivers after I got my R9 290. Top mounted PSU is cuz of my case, it's really old aswell, I need to check the temperatures cuz I haven't actually done that. Thanks for the help man :)
