Few newbie questions

Afternoon all,

Had a few quick questions. Had a bit of an incident last night on the server and wondered if the more experienced guys might be able to shed some light. Last night I joined the server with a 2 friends (both German) and we were having a great time. Easily the best server for Altis we've found. After an hour or so of driving about, one of the guys suggested that we try to do a hostage taking. From my reading of the rules, this is OK so long as you RP it and make it believable and 'fun' for those involved.

This is where it starts to go a little wrong, I read the rules to them and explained that it was ok to perform a robbery and even on a police officer but that we had to be VERY careful about how it was done. Well.... all was going well 'this is a hold-up' was said etc. seemed to be going ok until the Policeman aimed his gun at one of the guys. He got trigger happy and shot the policeman. The other German buddy then decided to remove any witness and shot the other guy nearby after telling him of the situation.

Now this has resulted in them both being banned. I didn't fire a shot and thus am fine. My (long winded) question is, are you allowed to take police hostage? I thought it was ok but maybe I'm being a retard. Also what is the done thing with killing people. Is it expressly forbidden? Obviously I guess we did something badly wrong, I'd like to make a case for them to be unbanned as we had a really good time until the above event. If we have royally cocked it up then so be it, but before I make a plea, I thought it prudent to clarify what we did wrong.

From the rules page:

(7.1.2) When taking hostages this must be roleplayed to a very high quality please note if taking police hostage CSO's & PCSO's cannot be taken hostage.

So as long as the police were PC or higher (not in light blue uniform) they can be taken hostage.  

It sounds like it may be a case of RDM or fail rp.   If you have any footage of the incident, it might help.

He was defo a policeman (PC if I remember). I guess we failed the role play bit as it got out of hand quickly. Fucking trigger happy German friends of mine, I told them to let me do the talking as they aren't great at english!! I guess it could also have been RDM because we shot the second guy without much of a chance for him to respond. My fault entirely as I forgot to press right mouse when talking - such a noob.

Would those things count as a perma ban or just a time (how long usually?)

I tried to open a case for them to unban but I cant seem to create a thread, how would you go about that?

All bans here are Perm bans, have them read the rules a couple of times and if they really want to come back, get them to type up an unban appeal http://www.altislife.co.uk/forms/2-/

You can't do an unban appeal on their behalf, it has to be the account that is banned otherwise you'll get yourself in trouble

All bans are permanent, but can be appealed on this server.

If you have genuinely made a mistake, and clearly show that you accept that mistake and are willing to improve to ensure it doesn't happen again, I think the admins of the server will generally have no issues unbanning you (as long as you haven't been banned too many times before).

Mistakes happen, as long as you learn from them. (I was banned over a year ago and it definitely made me shape of my knowledge of the rules).

Ah cool. Was only wanting to do it on their behalf as english isn't their first language and I'm the one that was supposed to be talking to the guys... and failed so feel a bit bad that I'm half the reason they are banned!

Not to worry, it makes sense I guess. 

We are very new to the server so obviously never been banned before. I think we should take a bit more time before attempting a hostage/robbery again!! Maybe learn from a gang or something.
