Epic Start to a friday !

Don't really have anything to say about this that I haven't already said to lionel... but... wow.

I think some of his (prior) customers might want to "rm -rf" him right now ;)

 
Wonder how ALUK runs their backups ?? :) Do we have cold storage less than a week old?

Hah i actually read about that last night and had a seriously good giggle. That's why i go Disk to disk to Tape and then duplicate the tapes and send them about 30 miles away.

Still, I did accidentally erase a 4TB NAS one time. Note: 'Initalise' does not mean 'Start' it means 'Wipe'. Top kek.

 
This is the sole reason I don't offer a backup solution, if any of my customers want to backup, they are free to do so. basically I don't want the stress :)

As marc pointed out to me it might be worth reminding them of this :)

Backups here became my responsibility the first day i started and I actually managed to get them to a pretty good state with some questionable software (Symantec ¬_¬) that said, i only do my office though and some of the others i've seen have made me wary, and i'm just junior

 
Fake

Last night I accidentally ran, on all servers, a Bash script with a rm -rf {foo}/{bar}.

Plus even if such a catastrophic fail such as this happened for real, there is always a good chance to run recovery on the drives, re-mount them in read only and begin the slow, long process of recovery :D

 
yeah turned out to be fake, but still be careful !

the guy claimed it was for viral attention :/  Yeah employ me I pretend to wipe out all my backups !!
ummm mebbe not !

Thats takes one um, well it takes quite a stupid person to do to be honest, when do you just put some random text into your main servers database and execute it? Beyond me.

argh i misplaced a tilde and now it's annoying me but i cba to change it.

I'd like to see the patching round the back. Cable ties every few inches is all well and good until you have to replace a broken cable to please the serfs.
