Back from the dead
I have about 1300 hrs in it and yeah, it's very fun, but it's very dependent on what games you like. If you don't like sucking at a game for a long time before you get any better, it's not for you, it takes a LONG time to get good. It's pretty much the same objective as League of Legends, although personally I think it's 10x better (I played 1300 hrs on Dota before I even touched LoL).
There are 3 lanes and a jungle. And 5 heroes on each team, the dire, and the radiant. The lane phase usually goes either 2 on each top and bottom lane and 1 in the middle/ 3 on the safe lane, 1 hard lane and 1 mid, OR 1 mid, 2 safe lane, 1 jungle and 1 hard lane. You'll learn these eventually when/if you play for a while.
Each lane spawns 'creeps' which are little waves of NPC Minions which you must kill (specifically get the LAST HIT) in order to gain Experience and Gold. Also, killing their minions and helping yours live will help you push towers, and unless you hit their champion under the tower, the tower will target the minions, allowing you to safely destroy the tower.
On each lane there are 3 towers which you must destroy in order to get to the barracks behind them. Once the barracks are destroyed, you get 'Mega Creeps' (stronger minions basically). Behind the barracks, there is 2 more towers which you must destroy before you destroy the Ancient (this is what makes you actually win/lose, when it's destroyed).
Games usually last between 30-50 minutes average, but sometimes less or more. The great thing about this game is that there's about 120 heroes to learn and so many different ways to play them, hence why you get so many hours of enjoyment. The reason it's so hard is because each hero has 4 abilities (Invoker has 13, because he's a cunt) and in order to be able to play alongside/against them effectively you must know how they work.
TL;DR, great game but takes a LONG time to get good at. Would happily play with you to teach you.
