Do earplugs affect direct chat?

I'd love to keep them on if they only affect cars and guns but I'm already having trouble with direct chat so if that's the case I have to reconsider.

No.. Infact they help direct chat to be heared over cars.

No they dont effect direct chat or any of the other channels. That is the point of them so that if for example you are in a helicopter you can put them in and be able to hear people inside, or if you are somewhere with a helicopter flying above you can put them in so the sound of the vehicles get quiter and the voice stays the same.

Thank you. I knew they didn't affect vehicle chat but direct chat is bunched up with the effects slider so I was unsure.
