I have a basic idea as to how desync & desync ramming works, but could someone tell me fully how it works because at the end of the day you need to know how to do it to make sure you A) Don't accidentally do it and B) can protect yourself from it. Like when you desync ram is it the person in front or behind that normally gets screwed over?

you need to know how to do it to
You really don't... It gets you banned for exploiting / VDM. I'm not going to tell you how to do it as it is REALLY obvious. Just drive far away if you are going to overtake someone.

Well tbh you kinda do because I overtook my friend in a hemtt and he ended up dying because of desyn. If i know how to Desync ram it then also means I know how to NOT kill people with it.

Desync is essentially like undercutting someone in real life, the space between player and player thinks their is a collision when there may not have been. If you tightly overtake someone fast within a metre or two of their vehicle it simulates this process. Which will either damage the vehicle, blow the vehicle up and kill the player or throw both vehicles off road.
