Prior to this video I have linked (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1-F5-j0G-8g) , I received a call after a Tweedle message about a house for sale. We discussed it and a price, and I was sent GPS coordinates to a house.
The video shows the rest of what happened. To put it simply - a player has led me to a house, given me a full tour, full information, told me the process of buying a house, then asked me to transfer him the money for the house, and then jumped off and ran away, being driven by a friend. He did not allow me to buy the house from him. The offending player's ID was 183.
At first glance, it would seem that I am not eligible for compensation as an "RP scam" but here's the reasons why I believe I am eligible for compensation.
• This server doesn't provide a secure method of trade, so how am I supposed to ever trade... you always have to trust people in order to get anywhere and everybody in RP says how you have to buy private and contact people using the methods that I did. Nobody ever mentioned to be careful of being scammed or anything... this has never been mentioned before when buying anything.
• The game isn't RPer friendly. If so, and I got scammed in real life I'd call the police and ask them to help. However, every time we contact police regarding illegal activity they don't do anything. They never turn up, they never help. There are gang hotspots like shark fishing beach where people get mugged every 5 minutes, yet police don't respond or do any patrols or anything. So can't tell me it's like real life when they don't do anything about long-term crime. They don't help victims of crime.
• At the end of the day, this is a 'game' and people can dress however they want. So there's no way I'm supposed to know that he's dressed in that way to scam me.
• I have only been playing a few days, so the information I get is from other players and the wiki. I'm new to RP and have never done this before. So I am reliant on information provided. I've met lots of lovely people and been helped a lot. But this isn't very RPer friendly system.
• There's no information on the wiki about scammers, houses, or things to be on the lookout for. There's no advice on how or when to trade. So how do I know that scamming people in this way is a thing in RP?
• People have since told me to ask for his ID. However, this wouldn't have given me anything, or told me what happened as the information disappears off my screen quickly, and doesn't tell me anything that would help me not be scammed.
Without a police department that can look in to this and help, I turn to you and ask that you provide me compensation for this scammer being allowed to operate, not tracked down, not punished in any way at all.
I also ask that there is more information placed on the Wiki for new players to understand things like this. I would personally like to contribute to a new player guide, a 'New to RP' would be very helpful in these circumstances too so that people can understand that this server doesn't punish this activity and allows the behaviour to happen.
I would also like to speak to somebody about how we can work together to change the police crime reporting procedure, so that victims of crime can be helped long-term, rather than police responding. This is an important part of police duties and therefore, RP.
I am trying to remain positive and don't want this to be the end of my RP experience. However, this experience feels real - I have been scammed out of my time and money I have put into playing this RP. I am really upset and have even considered stopping playing video games online due to this experience. So I hope you can understand my circumstances and enable me to help make this community a better place for new RPers like myself, and provide compensation for the lack of system in this game to stop this from happening.
