Cars & Bikes lock as you leave the vehicle if you have keys

A simple suggestion but I think will improve the QOL and stop trolls stealing both civilian and police vehicles when doing something and interrupting RP.

When someone is to get out of a vehicle or off a bike I'm suggesting the bike/car is locked for the people without keys to the vehicle or bike, needing to lockpick as usual as if the car has been locked by the 'L' command. I think this would be a nice addition as it will deter trolls and people interrupting RP from trying to steal vehicles for no reason.

Could also add more use for advanced lockpicks and lockpicks as it will be harder to steal vehicles.

There is a similar mechanic on other servers I've seen and in my opinion is a lot better than what we have now for vehicles.

If you don't have keys to a vehicle, you will have to lockpick into the driver's seat and after that need to 'hotwire' with a lockpick to start the engine.

PROS

-Stop trolls from trying to steal vehicles for no reason

-Stops people from interrupting police chase RP if someone forgets to lock a vehicle

-Makes lockpicks more useful

CONS

-Vehicles are harder to get for people without lockpicks

-DEV work

Coming from purely a police perspective, as annoying as it can be to have your vehicle stolen, be it a civilian one that gets reported to the police, or a service vehicle. They both result in further rp...usually requiring a chase.

(For police vehicles) I'm sure staff have already considered this when making the rule regarding stealing NHS vehicles.

If you can't remember to lock your car, then it's kinda your own fault...

-1 if you dont lock your car its on you mate some of my best chases are from stealing police cars cos they dont know how to lock there cars

50:50 on this, suppose it could depend on the car, as irl it’s a feature on some cars

Whilst I disagree with the automatic locking system upon exiting your vehicle (as has been said, you forget to lock it regardless of the situation then that is your fault if some scruff takes it for a joy ride) I do agree that some changes to the actual mechanic of lockpicking would be nice.

Being able to lockpick a vehicle as it stands is really simple, can be done in less than 30 seconds give or take and away we go. Instead, I feel something along the lines of the following would be a nice change:

  • Keep the current mechanic for lockpicking the doors, but add an additional lock making it 3 to add a bit more of a delay.

With this, then add a secondary mechanic to simulate hot wiring the car. Currently it does not make sense that once you lockpick the door, you suddenly get instant access to turn on the engine. I appreciate on the odd occasion you can hear wires being used to hotwire the car but it is very infrequent and again only takes a matter of seconds

[*]Replace the current lockpicking mechanic with the new dial/wheel with some changes. Make the rotation a lot slower, simulating actually spending time picking the lock and the suspense of somebody returning to their vehicle/police passing by. Doing this for 2 or 3 rotations would actually simulate the risk involved in stealing a vehicle.

  • Again once inside, the same mechanic would be implemented to simulate hot wiring the vehicle. Dial/wheel mechanic with slower rotations to add the risk factor.

The other option, however would require a lot more work, would be allow the likes of LS Customs/Benny's to have an additional feature where you can purchase an upgrade alarm system. At a cost, you can increase the security of your vehicle by adding additional safety features which delay the lockpicking times making it more difficult for people to steal vehicles.

Vehicles are very personal to people, and a lot of people pride themselves on both their cars and motorbikes, so it would make sense that the difficulty to steal them is increased and seen as a "high risk, high reward" type of scenario, rather than taking a cheap lockpick, 30 seconds of your time and you gain someone's pride and joy.
