Hey all

ive not really had a problem up until this point with recording my gameplay, but recently i have noticed that my framerate drops quite a bit when i record, and im just wondering if dropping my recording resolution to 480p would be a good idea,

i use xplit gamecaster at the moment to record at 720p

i am gaming on the MSI GT72 2qd dominator pro gaming laptop. specs are

 • CPU  - The 4th generation Intel® Core™ i7 Processor 2.50gz - 3.80ghz ( mine generally runs at 3.20ghz)
 • OS  - Windows 8.1
 • Chipset  - Intel HM87
 • Memory  - DDR3L,up to 1600 MHz, slot *4, max 32GB - I have 16gb DDR3
 • Display  - 17.3" Full HD (1920x1080), Anti-glare
 • Graphics  - GeForce GTX 970M
 • Graphics VRAM  - GDDR5 6/3GB

Can you not use ShadowPlay? via your GeForce GTX 970M?

If you have a second hard drive you could save the recordings to, it will probably help FPS a bit.

(Having OS / Arma3 / Recordings all hammering the same drive could be bottlenecking your HDD a bit).

the way the hard drives are set up, is i have a 128gb SSD with Raid 3 as an optional extra, then a 1tb hard drive which is where i direct recordings to, i tried using shadow play but i think due to prefering xplit i went ahead with that, but shadow play is a very viable option, it is already installed. because there somehow is alot of my main ssd full up i have my game directory in my larger hard drive.

ill give shadow play a go, thanks for the advice @Mycaelis

Shadowplay is the way to go mate and you don't have to record any useless shit! :)

Agree with what two above - shadowplay is love shadowplay is life if you have a usb headset its a bit shite on audo tho

Meh, shadowplay is indeed the best way to go if you want simplicity, not always putting your recording software on etc. but I have ran into many issues with ShadowPlay aswell. Like sometimes it has no sound, no video, weird pixely things on the recording etc.

Else use OBS ;) Use that for my stream(yes, I do stream.... Sometimes....), it's just fine but you HAVE to put it on and that's the annoying part :(

I vote DXTory. Relatively small file sizes for excellent quality. Ability to completely split all audio tracks without external hardware etc.

It's always worked perfectly for me.

Shadow play also has recording options, you can change the recording resalution and bit rate and plus it can record up to the last 15 minutes of gameplay so you can save it if you get RDMed or some one breaks the rules. Shadowplay is just the way to go.

@MannDuo So it will record in-game audio and your microphone separately?
@Unlucky George

Yup, using some other softwares alongside/within it anyway.

Basically just making the most out of Virtual Audio Cable/Audio Repeater.

We record everything just using DXTory, and it records 4 channels of Audio. Everything, Game, Skype/TS, Own mic. Comes in so handy being able to mute or lower/raise volumes without affecting other audio sources.

that's boss!

Does anyone know if you can record audio (ingame) microphone separably with shadow play? I used to use Dxtory aswel, but on my new pc it does not hook on any process.

Yea, I use that software too, it´s awesome! I recomend everyone that wants to record properly and in a professional way to use it!

I've used shadowplay, xsplit etc, but was looking for a tool that could also easily trim and upload my stuff. i've been using plays.tv (same idea as shadowplay, record up to last 20 minutes of gameplay) and been very satisfied how easy it is to record trim and upload my videos.
