Arma settings help

So I just invested in a new gaming laptop which runs the game on ultra settings fairly well (ca 40 frames )but at certain points I get the occasional frame drop.

Are there some settings I can turn off or turn down to have it more stable ? Im used to running everything on super low since Ive played Arma on a potato since I started :)

Any help or tips is appreciated.

I will assume you get 40 FPS on the server, then if you really want higher FPS (if it's even possible) lower the visibility.

Frame drops are usually associated with loading textures from drive (e.g. entering tows, or areas that are texture heavy). try closing all other apps whilst playing free up some ram (I am presuming you are on SSD).

Depending on the amount of Ram on the device, you could try disabling your page file, 8GB is probably not going to be enough although I have seen a few ppl get away with it.

Are you using shadowplay or an alternative ?

Ssd yes:)it does have 16gb ddr4 ram. Shadowplay has been on at least the last time i played, would disabling that help ? I also turned off shadows which did make somewhat of a difference.

thank u for ur help n reply bud, being able to not go on ultra low is pretty sweet :)

Shadowplay is constantly writing a full capture stream to your HDD, this obviously will slow down other applications accessing the drive.

Also worth noting is that if you are reading and writing heavily to SSD, don't expect a massive lifespan from the thing, I suggest you are vigilant at backing items up. With 16GB of ram I would recommend disabling page file completely.

Think of it this way.

Arma3 : Loading Gigs worth of textures from the drive, as and when it needs them.
Shadowplay : writing gigs of video files to your drive per hour (quality vs size expected).
Page File : writing files to Disk that it can't store in RAM or doesnt think it needs to (also these files are compressed now .....)
Hibernate : Keeping your image of your current OS running up to date should you decide to close the lid or put in sleep mode.
FireFox : Eats more memory than alzheimers disease

Then your going to have a bunch of other apps reading and writing, Make sure you add your Steam folder to the exception list for your AV, so it doesnt scan each texture file as it gets loaded into the game.

So much info thank u so much for this !! i have to ask though what do u mean by AV ? Lawd i feel dumb

AV = AntiVirus.

Its never a dumb question if you don't know the answer :)
