So I've had my computer for a pretty long time now and with the new technology the systems that can be built are amazing and the time I've had this computer I think I can treat myself to a new one. What I'm looking for is to put together a new computer that will be able to run ArmA 3 at a decent frame rate with a presentable quality. I am aware that this game is the most annoying games to work with but I know for sure an upgrade from my current system will be a big improvement. I think my range for a parts will be around 800-100 pounds if that helps anything, I really just want to see what the community has so that I can compare them all together to see what works and what dosent.

You missed a 0 in the budget Mwahaha!

people always recommend the i7 4970k and 970 graphics card! Try PC part picker and select a compatible mobo and 8/16GB of ram (Google for the best gaming ram) and then select a cool looking case that should fit the components you've got!

What power supply do you currently have? It never hurt to recycle old parts of you can.

Can definatetly recommend the i7 4970k & 970  Very great, set me back around 1100 pound when i bought it last year

Can be recommended to future proof yourself a little bit and (tbh) save more up so you can get the 980 instead ;) (that is whatever you decide)

I can recommend some good  DDR4 ram and get a good proper motherboard, don't go cheap on the motherboard and make sure the power supply can atleast handle 1½ of what you need so you're open to upgrading without having too much excess spendings

Remember to get a proper case aswell, look around for one with good cooling and if you want you can buy some silent fans yourself (can recommend!)

And ofcourse, be on the lookout for discounts!

Right thanks I guess all I need is the money now :)

Just one thing, is there a major gaming difference between a good i5 and a normal i7?

Yeah thanks for the power supply tbh I would have picked the wrong one so much appreciated <3

@Fusedi've done a number of good builds for people here for a bit less than your budget, I can chime in and help you more when i'm home from work but if you have a look through the posts here you'll see some of the builds. I personally have a 4790k and a 980ti and it dominates any game i play at the moment.

Key points i'd want to know for a build are:

  • do you need a monitor or what res will you be playing in?
  • do you have or need to buy a windows licence?
  • do you want to go latest and greatest at slight extra expense?
as for i5 vs i7, It comes to a few things, if you're just playing games you might not see much difference in performance between them. If you're doing serious multi-threaded rendering or something such as movie editing, 3d modelling, running virtual machines etc. etc. i'd say get the i7.

If you can afford it, i'd say go i7 as that way you eliminate the risk of getting the i5 and it just not cutting the mustard.

Here's the build i did for @Krala little while back. Full build incl licence, monitor, peripherals etc. with an i5 and 970. I believe he was quite pleased with it.

It was £880. So if you can stretch to a grand, you can tart up the gpu to a 980, or the cpu to a 970

@Fused

Zeitos build for Kral is excellent, almost same parts as i have.

I would highly recommend getting an SSD for your OS and some games and using the HDD for storage drive etc.

Samsung 850 EVO 250GB is a good choice, i have one myself and its fantastic.

16GB Ram with no page file :) especially if your going down the SSD route.

Samsung drives are bloody good. my self and my kids use em, cannot fault them at all !!!

Sorry yes i should have added - Put an SSD into that build above and it's pretty much tippy top.

Forgot all about coming back to this last night, spent all night watching Air Crash Investigation and eating chicken :s
