Am I allowed to remember names and faces as a bounty hunter?

I usually strike up conversation with citizens and eventually ask them for their names, and then memorize their names and that I have met them. Not all citizens desire to give me their names of course; some are clever enough to understand that giving me their names to a bounty hunter is a bad thing, even if they are innocent. But if they do, and if their names later pop up on the wanted list and I see them, I will approach and arrest them using the logic that I already know who they are. Is this allowed?

This is definitely not what I only try to do. I also have some civilian friends who I have hired to ask around in Kavala until they might find a name that matches my list.

If they have already given you their name, then I think that is fine. Better get an admins opinion though @Wilco

Hmmm...

This is a tough one really, as technically as far as the rules are concerned, you are allowed to remember peoples names and faces if they have given it to you. Even over the new life rule, as otherwise I wouldn't even recognise my own gang / their allies.

However, in the way you've listed above, it could be considered power gaming in some peoples eyes.

Best one to leave for an admin to clarify.

Yeah okay. The thing is that it is otherwise extremely difficult to play as a bounty hunter as there is a severe limitation in how you can obtain their names. It just happened to me that somebody accidentally slipped his name, so I had him arrested- but otherwise I pretty much only can use civilians to help me. The problem with civilians is that it is difficult to find good improvisers who can convincingly make people give them their names.

It is a tricky one because if the average person chatted with say 20 people in a day it's unlikely theyll remember everyones name and face after a week (particularly if you're doing this every day). Unless all these people have names floating over their heads of course

Personally I don't know why bounty hunters need an outfit. In real life they don't. I'm basing this purely on dog the bounty hunter

If police did this it would be seen as powergaming so I would think the same for the bounty hunter.

I think it would. I've always thought I couldn't remember people after the server reset unless I've met them a good good few times and even then I only go on voices

The way I've grown used to server restarts or new shifts is a light restart of known connections. Within one period of four hours, you can remember someone's name and face, but as soon as the round ends, you forget them.

In another roleplaying community for another game, remembering someone's name in between rounds was considered metafriending or metagrudging, depending on whether or not you're doing it to your advantage.

In the case of clans or an organized police force, this is sort of pointless and implementing a rule such as metafriending would only serve to bug everyone (They'd have to introduce themselves every time and it would just get old.) I do believe, however, that it is important to stop "metagrudging" which is essentially causing harm to someone that you witnessed do something in an earlier shift.

Yeah that's how I play it. There's a dew players I've met a good few times and if I see them I might say hi, check they're not wanted and then talk to them by name (or do if they do first). If they are wanted I'd just act like I didnt know them

I belive myself to have a nag for remembering peoples voices and will act upon it if I need to identify someone I've met previously. However as // Albino wrote I never let it carry over from one server restart, or gaming session, to another.
