'Initiations'
A word commonly used, as if it's an abbreviation for 'High quality role-play'

When I joined in 2015, a robbery was not mainly committed out of greed or spite, but for role-play. 

Example; In the streets of Kavala,  -That's a nice watch you've got there... Rolex? *Pulls Rook-40* (the most feared weapon of them all..!) -I think that watch would look amazing on my wrist, wouldn't you? "hint hint" 
'Victim drops watch on the ground then runs away in fear'  | Police Dispatch: "I've been robbed..!  '...description' etc etc" 

At this point, quality role-play, in my opinion, has taken place. Not only is this satisfactory for both parties involved, but also creates an opportunity for a 'follow-up' scenario by the Police in search of the robber.  
 

'Robbery 2018'
Diamond Trader, Agios. HEMTT Box has been spotted...

Robber, armed with MX SW: Hands up! RIGHT NOW - HANDS UP!, *friend 800m away, armed with MK-1, LRPS screams over radio: INITIATE FOR FRIENDS AND ALLIES! REMEMBER; FRIENDS AND ALLIES!* ...I have MULTIPLE friends and allies in the area..!

Victim: Or what?! 'awaits person to give a 'threat to life' to justify shoot-out to commence.' 

Robber: Or LETHAL FORCE will be used! ..Uhm, by FRIENDS AND ALLIES.. IN THE AREA...!

'Victim' : *Pulls TRG-21 from backpack*, gets gunned down by MK-1, LRPS from 800m away.

Victim: //RDM come TS please

'Police vs. Rebel 2018'
Police driving their Hatchback (Sport) 200km/h through Kavala spots a man carrying a Katiba on his back.

*Hand-break turn, heading straight for the man armed with an assault rifle, fails to call it in*

Police: *Jumps out of car, immediately pull their primary weapon, loaded with lethal ammunition.* -Sir, is that an ILLEGAL FIREARM on your back?! ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

Rebel: IF ANYTHING HAPPENS TO ME, I HAVE FRIENDS AND ALLIES IN THE AREA.. *gets interrupted by Police*

Police: *Presses down 'whisper all' button: YOU HAVE FRIENDS AND ALLIES IN THE AREA, YEA?*

 *Radio chatter: TROJAN 1 RESPONDING TO KAVALA SITUATION! LEAVING MOLOS NOW!*   

Police: Sir, stop running or you will be tased..! 

Rebel: *Pulls Katiba* IF I GET TASED, MY FRIENDS AND ALLIES IN THE AREA WILL USE LETHAL FORCE ON ALL COPS!

Police: *Talks over radio* Rebel has given threats to life to all officers, shoot all rebels in the area! 

 
Tbh it's always been like it is now.

Only reason it was better back then was because people had less money and there was a lot of new players who didn't have money.

This one made me laugh, because maybe in 1 in 20 situations you will be able to start roleplay with the cop. Before you even get a chance to use an overused or never seen before roleplay story you have to initiate with friends and allies because it is immediately a weapon & roleplay just will not happen. This isn't something that you can purely blame on civs. Even if the weapon is holstered with cops there, they will not speak about it, forcing you to lose it or start a gunfight.

Okay. As much as I do agree that most roleplay situations do lead to gunfights let’s remember that the server has changed a lot since 2015. I can’t say I saw any of the roleplay then as I didn’t play Arma 3 at that time. Now, if someone’s being robbed and they have the chance to resolve the situation they could take it by offering a bargain or something. But if the robbers soul intention is to kill the man he should have all right to pull out his weapon and take a stance at killing the robber as there is no alternative, right? Yes, he risks his life with the threat of friends in the area but sometimes that’s just a bluff. I’m probably wrong here but it’s just a small input. 

 
@Drex I agree with you. Majority of situations I've heard are that way. Reasonably that's how people react because everyone is afraid of being reported for small mistakes, people want to be very clear that they're not 'RDMing' people as of recently A LOT more people have been reporting instead of resolving. Personally I never use, 'Stop or be tazed' or 'Stop or ill shoot you'  Doesn't mean high quality roleplay. Example from yesterday, I spoke with a man for 10 mins trying to allow me to search him, without a word of warning he jumped into his car and drove away. I proceeded to shout 'Stop the vehicle, Don't drive away, Stop' with a weapon pointed and then the chase began, after the police timer ran out I was free to Disable his vehicle and try detain him. Unfortunately he drove me to the redzones where he gunned me down.  I get the point your trying to make.  Don't be so 'This or That will happen.'

@Drex I dont know which 2015 you played in,but when I was playing in 2015 most of the attacks on me were made like this "You have 10 seconds to comply if you do not you will be shot"

"Hands up or die you have 5 seconds"

At least they removed the 10 second countdown thing.

You have a point tho....rp quality should be better throughout all factions.

Used to do exactly this. Seeing how many watches I could steal in a restart. Stealing hobos maps was also a classic crime.

You can still find this kind of RP around Kavala

But anywhere else its exactly as you describe

 
surely the quality of weapons was different?? everyone's kicking about with 7.62. On my last trip going on holiday, I went via Heathrow the police aren't going around with assault rifles. They are cutting about with SMGs
