Alternator Computer Build

The Alternator is the name I am giving to my new computer build, as few of you may know I sold my computer a couple months ago, however finally I almost have enough to build a new one, I will list the specifications of my old system below along with the new build. Just to clarify my old system components were not bad however my graphics card was faulty, it worked however only with old drivers from march 2015 and would not work on Windows 10, forcing me to stay on windows 8.1. My old processor was fine however I decided to sell it for a good price, and my old power supply was working however it had a couple problems, one of the cables was stripped, it had terrible coil whine and last of all the fan would make a really annoying clicking noise, any way I will stop complaining about my old system and tell you about my soon to be system (hopefully soon to be anyway). Let's start with the name, The Alternator, I have decided to call it this because a alternator generates power and as will this computer, well not in a literal sense, as gaming power. On to the components, I wanted to hit the sweet spot where the gaming performance is best for the least amount of money this is in the £700-£800 range. Just so you know I already have the power supply, memory, hard drive and processor cooler, the memory and harddrive are both from my old build as is the power supply however I managed to get a replacement as it was faulty. I will be ordering all these parts new as to have warranty incase anything is faulty or breaks to no fault of my own. I would also like to mention that I do know a solid state drive would sit very nicely with this build as a boot drive and for those long loading games however I will not be buying that straight away as to save money for more important things, I will however be getting one in the future, as you probably know a solid state drive does not make game performance any better, it just decreases load times, however I do not mind that as for now. I am making this post to hear your suggestions, if you feel I could get something better for the same price please let me know, I just want to mention, I know there are AMD graphics cards out there that are cheaper and perform better however I will be recording a lot and shadowplay is the best recording software I can find that is free and does not take any performance away. Other than that I am open to any suggestions.

how comes you're looking at getting a 750TI and not anything newer?

The build looks good to me however what cooler are you looking to get? I'm not sure a stock cooler would be good for that CPU especially if you're going to OC (assuming you want to as you're getting a 'K' model

All looks good! Definitely want to upgrade that GPU at some point. a GTX 970 is a strong card. You should think about a 250GB SSD as well for the OS to supplement that mechanical drive. They've really come down in price lately.

I've put together a few builds for people here on tight budgets, if you need any tips or anything feel free to drop me a pm! @Reece

Cooler there is a 212 Evo, plenty enough!

@Zeito didn't even realise it was listed!

And  Reece I may be having two 750Ti's going for sale by Monday if you'd want them?

I really do appreciate the offer, however I won't be building this for another couple of weeks, also I do like to buy thing new because if anything goes wrong with it there will be warranty.

That's perfectly fine, I'll be stuck with them for a pretty while then

Goodluck!

Feel free at any time if you need any help. Are you buying that 750TI new? How much is it costing you if i can ask?

Thanks for the advice, I know that the 750ti is insuperior compaired to the processor however as samatlewiss guessed I am planning of upgrading the gpu and oc the cpu, will  definitely pm you if I need any  further help. I basically picked the best motherboard and cup as I could so I could eisally upgrade and of the other components when the time comes.

It's a golden oldie but it should tide you over. Depending on how much it's costing you though I would say seriously consider putting it off and taking @Samatlewissup on 1 or both of his. I imagine you could get a good deal, and the money you save would go better towards newer components in the future. Provided the GPU is packaged in an anti-static bag and then some bubble wrap and sent insured - you should be fine though i can fully appreciate it being new and not having to worry about if it's been badly overclocked or damaged in transit etc.

Arma is a CPU intensive game anyway, so graphical power is more of an afterthought - but 2GB of VRAM wont carry you far on newer titles.

I forgot to say - PSU wise, corsair ones are great - i would advise you get one that's at least semi-modular so you dont have a tonne of cables you dont use clogging up your case. Make sure it's 80+ Bronze too at a minimum.

I know it would be much chieaper to get the parts second hand however, I don't know if it is just me but I always buy technology new because parts are expensive and having that warranty puts my mind at peace, sorry @samatlewiss

I will let you know what I do decide to get in the end, and as for the modular, the case has no window and I can tightly squeeze cables and pack them away, I will make sure it doesn't block air flow of corse, I just cannot justify spending the extra money on something I don't necessarily need.

Yeah I know what you mean, it's nice being able to just RMA and return it if there's a problem.

If that's the one you're going for it fills the criteria anyway, 80+ bronze and semi-modular, only £50 too! :)

Yeah that is the one, corsair are a nice cheap and cheerful make!
Generally very good quality too!! Their after-sales support as well i've heard is exceptionally top-notch. I asked where i could buy a spare Bezel and front panel for my case (corsair 600T white) as they sold the parts but only in the US. They emailed back for my address and posted me them out free. I mean it was all of about £10, but it's the principle!

Agreed, and a 600T, that's like my all time favourite case :p!
