A question for Admins and the Community

Walt

Inspector Walt of the FPD
Recently whilst playing on the server I have been thinking of ways we can further enhance the server and it has got me a little concerned.

I am aware that this server has achieved Number 1 in the UK, Top 15 Globally and now has 100 player slots which is all fantastic and well deserved considering the efforts that the Admins and Moderators go to as well as the amazing Community that has developed here.

My concern for the server is that the only "new" stuff to get implemented will come in the form of Official DLC from Bohemia. What I mean by this is, I know a lot of changes are made, skins are made and new features created, but there's not much new in the way of Vehicles and Weapons.

My question to Wilco and the Admin team is simply, is there any chance that AltisLife UK will begin one day integrating mods into the server. I personally believe that allowing Modifications onto the Server could only be a positive. It could allow for new gear, weapons, vehicles, items...a whole load of stuff.

To provide examples of what I mean, I will show examples I have thought of for Police (this is bias because I have been thinking of the benefits from my own perspective. I am sure there are plenty for all teams / people)

- A Police helmet like British Police have

- Riot equipment for Police

- Different Police vehicles

- Different weaponry (a tazer that actually looks like a tazer)

- A hovercraft or Battleship (MPUs time to shine)

I know that to get stuff like this is requires extremely skilled people, and you would have to likely pay or learn to mod yourself, but was just a thought.

Again, the reason I ask is because it was something that was allowed in TakistanLife and I feel that brought a lot of excitement, it provided a lot of new stuff we'd not seen or used before.

Summary :

To Wilco and the Admin / Moderator / Development Team - Are modifications something that could be feasable on the server should the community actually want this, or is there something stopping it from happening?

To the Community - Do you believe Modifications are something that (if possible), should be implemented into the server, or would you rather them not?

still waiting on arma 3 life :D hope they will put a server op when they release it :D

#1 Problem of modded server is that makes everyone download files in order to get into the server, which people just skip.

Althought maybe in the future, if we have a yet a bigger community let's imagine 3/4 servers, we might drop one modded and check how it goes. I will let Wilco tell his opinion on this tho.

It wont be public Deleter, its designed just for them. Although if we wished to we could develop a second server for mods indeed. Yet I am sure that Wilco does not wish for that yet.

If its just for athletical reasons, mods would Likely kill the server in the long run.

If it adds gameplay, then it may be worth keeping the database synced and add the extra features to the second server.

Have 1 modded one not get the best of both worlds

Bleh typing on a phone takes ages :/

I do agree 100%, however i believe making the server modded means that the server will not be what it is. This may be taken negatively or positively, but i believe this may change the community "too" much.

What i would much rather see is a white-listed server, this may be for members who have been a member on the forums for over 2 weeks. Or an idea someone has raised before. A hardcore version, so on death money and account are wiped and people begin a new life all together so they loose their status. These are both also MASSIVE things to consider but are good ideas that could happen as a trial.

White-listed server is my biggest wish though.

these both come from the server being full now days and the community is a big as it needs to be for this.

Forget mods, i'll be happy with a whitelist-only server once ours have grown to 3 or more servers full.

They have massive legal issues right now so dont expect them to go public... all the mods that are on there server are being used without credits and a big angry mob full of the guys who made the modifcations including Tonic is going after them. Not to mention BIS who are not happy about the way they are forcing people to pay before they can access the server.

Thats a big worry... the other big worry is the guys incharge... Caiden he seems to like coming across as a complete bell end and there are storys of him and his team ddos-ing people.

I was going to play Arma3 life but after seeing the huge thread on the BIS forums i am staying away!

In regards to the original post Walt made... i cannot see people downloading mod packs (think back to Takistan) it will also mean a lot of extra work and we would need to seek permission of the content owners unless we make objects our self.

Personally in the foreseeable future i cannot see this being an option but we will see what happens.

I would like to see mods added in-game like what Walt said, it would rid the server of alot of trolls and if you put an easy to install guide on the homepage of the website I think it could work well.

The biggest issue that any Moddded server has is the reduced community. Right now, there is very little demand for modded Arma 3 life servers than their is for just script based ones. True, Arma 3 Life was popular until it got into a legal shitstorm, but the most popular servers on Arma are life servers for a reason. It'd be nice to have mods that's true, but it'd likely go the way of the TCG addons where people just pikey them...

Well if we cant mod, can we not as Grannez says add everything we have to the server? or make a server 3 for mod?

Modded server did not work as seen with Takistan. It peaked around 40 people with a very broken economy and when it updated nobody came back, because nobody wanted to redownload and hit endgame too early. As Cardoso mentioned we could see a whitelisted server if we grow to 3/4 servers, however I foresee all the good established players here staying on it for the simple reason that it has more to offer and lower the player quality of our current public servers. Time will tell what happens.

To add what Wilco said about A3L Caiden one of the A3L founders told Tonic to go kill himself on page 7 in the BIS forums and last I checked the thread is over 20 pages. A lot of legal issues are hitting them, including taking vehicles from Crysis 2,so they have to deal with BIS and Crytek.
