It is possible but their could be a massive reduction of your signal strenght. Best to test it or borrow a powerline adapter to see how much it difference from just a plain socket and a extension lead. Powerline adapters are sensitive products which are easily interrupted by other electrical products. For exmaple: If you have a powerline adapter on the same group as your microwave, and put the microwave on, it will have effect on the speed of your powerline adapter.
Best to get an ethernet cable ofcourse. There are alot of methods to pull cables to your required position. (Outisde and inside the house).
